The Dead Week of December.

It is my favourite time of the year. This year however, I feel anything but rested.

This week, the one between Christmas Day and New Years Eve, the exact last week on the calendar has always been one I look forward to for the entire year. The frantic rush leading up to Christmas has become a recent memory, it is now a time to relax, catch up with the people you want to see. To take stock of the year that was and start to plan for the year ahead.

It is a good week. It is my favourite week. It has always provided me with the respite I needed, along with the opportunity to start the new year off on the right foot.

At least, that was what this week was all about. A little bit of time for me, my thoughts, my goals, my aspirations. This year, it is anything but.

I am, and have always been a news junkie. I consume the news and world events at every opportunity. Good, bad, local or international, having an understanding of the events taking place has always been important to me as it provides the knowledge necessary to keep events in context.

This approach, regardless of what I was reading or hearing has served me well and it was continuing to do so right up to exactly one month ago from today — November 29, 2024.
