In Pictures — Black Lives Matter Toronto

On the surface the Black Lives Matter — Toronto march on May 30, 2020 could have been confused as a solidarity march with those in the United States.

In one way, it was, in another, it was not, rather it was to remember another black life lost. In not at the hands of Police, they were present when she died.

On May 27, 2020, Regis Korchinski-Paquet, 29 fell to her death from her 24th floor apartment balcony.

Police had been called to the scene, in fact during the day there had been three 911 calls to Toronto Police from her address.

Korchinski-Paquet was suffering a mental-health crisis. Police were called. The situation appears to escalate, and another young black life is lost.

On May 28, 2020 Ontario’s police watchdog, the Special Investigations Unit announced they had opened up an investigation.
