Crazy Trump Headlines Vol. 2
Day 18 of the 1461 days Trump will be in Office.
Having spent many years in newsrooms and covering politics, the flurry of Trump-related headlines each morning astounds me. The content in those headlines is also astounding. Here are three which caught my eye this morning.
“Trump Says He Left Instructions to ‘Obliterate’ Iran if It Assassinates Him.” New York Times, February 6, 2025.
Trump made the comment on the same day he signed, yes, his favourite thing, another Executive Order, to restore his campaign of “maximum pressure,” unclear on exactly what that means, against Iran to give up their nuclear program. Trump was answering a question asked by a reporter when he made the statement.
“Trump and Musk’s Dismantling of Government is Shaking the Foundations of US Democracy.” Associated Press, February 6, 2025.
Mike Johnson, the Republican speaker of the House, said on the opening of Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency that there would be “a lot of change around here.” Nailed that. I’m betting, however, it’s just not going the way Johnson had thought. Government workers are being pushed, if not forced, to resign. Entire agencies are being closed at Musk’s behest, leading one Republican advisor to say, “This is an erosion of our democracy.” Note: I wrote about this in a piece…
