Can Elon Musk Be Stopped

Musk has upended Washington, creating uncertainty and a culture of “fear and madness.”

Elon Musk and others from the Department of Government Efficiency are operating at will without any oversight, mandate, direction, or accountability.

Musk was recently named by Trump as a Special Government Employee (SGE). Given an office, a phone and a government email, but not a salary. While this may add to the legitimacy of his position, SGEs have a limited lifespan of 130 days.

The $288 million Musk contributed to Trump’s election campaign did two things. It delivered Trump the Oval Office. A win he desperately needed to make those pesky criminal trials go away. It also bought Musk a position within Trump’s administration where he would have the latitude to trim $2 trillion out of the government operating budget.

His mandate at the Department of Government Efficiency is to cut jobs. This is not about making anything more efficient; it is simply cutting the payroll of the federal workforce.

Musk has taken on the FBI (Federal Bureau of Investigation), FAA (Federal Aviation Administration), CIA (Central Intelligence Agency), USAID, Department of Education, Department of Labour and the Treasury Department, where he had given himself a “line-item veto” to overrule government spending he sees as wasteful.
